President William Ruto today, July 6, 2026, led the nation in marking a historic milestone as he presided over the centenary celebrations at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Nairobi.

The high-profile, three-day event marks exactly 100 years since the premier institution was established in 1926 to train and build capacity for Kenya’s public service sector. The celebrations, held at the KSG Lower Kabete Campus, brought together senior government officials, diplomats, scholars, and policy experts.

President Ruto officially opened the celebrations by unveiling the KSG centenary commemorative plaque, signing the visitors’ book, and receiving a briefing on the institution’s 100-year journey.

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga Regional Leadership and Governance Academy plaque. The academy, established in partnership with industrialist Dr. Manu Chandaria, honours the former Prime Minister’s legacy in democratic struggle, regional diplomacy, and pan-African engagement.

President Ruto also officially opened a high-level policy dialogue on “Building National Wealth and Global Competitiveness”. The forum featured a panel discussion with Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, ambassadors from China, France, Italy, and Azerbaijan, and South Korean academic Jeom Seok Baek.

In the afternoon, experts and policymakers led discussions on Kenya’s transition to first-world status, public service reforms, education, agriculture, and policy changes needed to boost national wealth.

The programme included the recognition of graduating public service officers and the presentation of awards to top-performing candidates. Senior government officials addressing the gathering included Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo, Jane Imbunya, and Shadrack Mwadime.

Since its inception, the Kenya School of Government has been pivotal in training civil servants, state officers, and public sector leaders. This 100-year mark stands as a significant achievement for the nation’s governance history, highlighting the institution’s critical role in shaping Kenya’s administrative leadership and policy implementation.
